Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri has asked the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, to intervene in the conflict between Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and his Benue counterpart, Samuel Ortom, to avoid escalation.
Governor Diri, who made the plea during a courtesy visit to Governor Mohammed on Thursday at the government house in Bauchi, urged the two governors to sheath their swords and forgive each other.
There has been a war of words between the two governors who are PDP members over the protracted farmers and herders clashes in the country.
“It is very disturbing to read on the pages of national newspapers the governors of Bauchi and Benue engaging in a cold war. I appeal to the party leadership to intervene in the matter and no party member should speak on the contentious issue again,” Diri said
Responding, Governor Mohammed thanked his Bayelsa State counterpart for visiting him and pledged not to speak further on the issue or against Ortom.
Also, yesterday members of the NWC of the PDP led by the chairman, Prince Uche Secondus met with the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, in Abuja. Fani-Kaoyde was recently rumoured to be planning to decamp to the ruling APC.
Speaking after the meeting, Secondus said their meeting was extensive, fruitful and ended with a promise that he (FFK) will remain a PDP member.
