Dikwa attackers spoke foreign language — Witness

The suspected insurgents who attacked Dikwa town, Borno State, last week, communicated in a language not indigenous to Nigeria, a witness has said.

Dikwa town, about 87 kilometres from Maiduguri, was attacked on Monday last week by insurgents who were overpowered by troops and chased out on Tuesday.

A resident, who listened to the attackers from where he was hiding, said: “As they spoke some spoke fluent Kanuri, and a few of them spoke a language that is not indigenous to Nigeria.

“They said they will wait for some officials who sought refuge in an underground shelter and that they will slaughter them.

“Later, on Tuesday, someone alerted them of the arrival of soldiers in a long convoy of vehicles and they ran away.”
