Registrars of polytechnics and colleges of technology in Nigeria have said that polytechnics in the country are operating different schemes and conditions of service.
This, they noted, was responsible for the industrial disharmony in the polytechnic sector.
The chairman, Conference of Registrars of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria (COREG), Alhaji Zanna M. Kashim, stated this in Offa, Kwara State at the 75th regular meeting of the conference.
“I wish to once again humbly appeal to the executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to intervene in this regard in the interest of the system,” he said.
He said a team was assembled by NBTE, in the past, to evolve an acceptable scheme and conditions of service for the polytechnic sub-sector. The team had registrars as members, the unions, office of the Head of Service of the Federation and other important stakeholders within the system.
He said the team had, in spite of challenges in several forms, worked for two years and came up with a workable document to serve as the scheme and conditions of service to ease operations.
“Alas, since submission of the document to the office of the Head of Service, nothing has been heard in spite of several representations by COREG executives and some members,” he also said.
In his remark, Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Dr Lateef Olatunji, urged the registrars to improve on the administrative information system in their respective institutions.
