Diezani’s N264m bribe:  Kwara state INEC official convicted

Justice Mohammed Idris, sitting at a Federal High Court in Lagos, on Thursday, convicted a former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Administrative Secretary in Kwara state, Mr. Christian Nwosu, after he was found guilty.

Nwosu was found guilty of laundering N264million.

The court has however adjourned sentencing until tomorrow, Friday, January 25, 2019 by 12noon and ordered EFCC to ensure Nwosu’s presence.

“I find that the prosecution has proved the case beyond reasonable doubt in the manner required by law. I therefore, find the first and second defendants guilty as charged,” the judge said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned Nwosu for accepting gratification from former Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

He was re-arraigned along with Tijani Bashir before Justice Idris.

They were charged with another INEC official, Yisa Adedoyin, who pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted following a plea bargain.

Nwosu had initially pleaded guilty to receiving N30 million bribe from Mrs. Alison-Madueke to rig the 2015 general election results, but changed his plea to not guilty.
