Dice Ailes advocates youthful representation of culture

A Nigerian music artist, Shasha Damilola Alesh, otherwise known as Dice Ailes, has advocated for youthful representation of culture, saying it’s a bridge to their history.

Dice Ailes, with roots in the Oyo royal family, gave the charge when he joined the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu, to visit the Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal, the Iniru of Iru in Lagos.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Ailes said the encounter offered him a glimpse into the evolving Yoruba monarchy and its connection to the younger generation.

He noted that the meeting reinforces cultural ties and signifies peace and respect within the Yoruba Community.

He said: “Oba Sefius’ visit served a dual purpose; familiarisation with established Yoruba leaders and upholding the unity of the Yoruba kingdom.

“Historically, Lagos and Oyo share a deep connection, making this interaction particularly significant. Meeting with the Oniru reinforces cultural ties and signifies peace and respect within the Yoruba community, as well as towards others.”

The Ella crooner’s presence at the meeting was not solely due to his musical career. He was invited to represent his family as a result of their significant role within the Oyo royal family.

Ailes, an ambassador, unifies the house and projects a positive image for his family name, Iseyin culture, and Yoruba culture as a whole.

Ailes who hails from the Aleshinloye family, holders of the Balogun title in Iseyin, a high-ranking position often referred to as the warlord said embracing tradition provides stability, connects people to their roots, and fosters a deeper understanding of one’s heritage.

The Oyo prince emphasised the importance of the visit in fostering cultural exchange among different Yoruba regions, adding that by interacting and sharing practices, Yoruba kings actively contribute to the preservation of their heritage.

The music sensation delivers a clear message to the Yoruba youth. “Tradition is essential. It serves as a bridge to their history, connecting them to their ancestors and legacy. It fosters a sense of unity, and belonging and shapes their principle and way of life.

“Embracing tradition provides stability, strengthens their roots and fosters a deeper understanding of their essence and heritage.”

Ailes, who has influenced the new generation of Afrobeat, is a hip-hop artiste, rapper, and songwriter.

The singer, who is known for the hit singles “Otedola” and “Ella”, released his new music video “Dice baba” on the 28th of June.
