Diaspora APC chairmen task Buni-led committee on ‘inclusion’

The Committee of Diaspora Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday, commended the outcome of the meeting of the National Executive council of the party held on Tuesday.

While expressing confidence in the ability of Gov. Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee to steer the party to greatness, they pledged support, solidarity and loyalty to the leadership towards achieving genuine national reconciliation, stability, growth and development of the party.

The APC Diaspora leadership urged the Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to work towards ensuring inclusion of diaspora members in the structure and administration of the party.

The statement was jointly signed by Dr Philip Idaewor, Chairman, APC UK & Chairman, APC Diaspora Forum; Hon. Lawal Ayoola, Chairman, APC Scandinavia & Secretary, APC Diaspora Forum.

“We thank party members for making all the sacrifices to ensure that APC continues to grow to becoming the party with a nationally accepted people centred agenda for the good of the greatest majority of Nigerians,” the statement noted.

It stated that Nigerians in the diaspora have long called for their inclusion in the political processes as partners and participants on equal terms as compatriots at home.

While calling for visionary leadership of the party to strategically align her diaspora members fully into the party structure in order to tap maximally into benefits arising from the recently announced ‘Diaspora remittances law ’, it outlined that “if Nigerians living abroad remain as patriotic as consistently shown by their financial contributions to the Nigerian economy, they ought to also be received and seen as equal partners in the Nigerian project.”

The chairmen further expressed satisfaction with the party’s resolve in fully recognising the place of the diaspora in the country’s political evolution. “We are pleased that APC is already blazing the trail in recognising the place of Nigerians in the diaspora.”

Recall that on Tuesday, National Executive Council in resolution extended the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee of the APC for another six months.

The caretaker committee was raised in June following the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Mr. Adams Oshiomhole.
