Developer Launches Free Education App, Targets N100,000 Monthly For Undergraduates

The developer of Mobile Classroom Limited, a digital education solution, Mr Akeem Salami, has disclosed the birth of its free education feature for university students across the country.

He said the digital tool can provide funding for students up to N100,000 monthly.

Mr Salami stated this during the presentation of cheques to 16 co-winners from University of Ilorin who took part in the Nationwide Virtual Test for tertiary students.

Miss Alabi Ayomide Ayobami won the highest cash prize of N150,000 from the university.

Daily Trust reports that the mobile classroom app avail the students opportunity to revisit uploaded lectures in audio and videos to enhance understanding and exportation of academic knowledge via campuses globally.

The winners were tested from the uploaded content on the app after reading.

Speaking to Daily Trust at the event which was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Wahab Egbewole (SAN), the creator of the app posited that the exercise is not only to inspire the students to be more committed with their academics but also prove that not only immoral activities get rewarded in Nigeria.

He said about N7 million have been given to university students in the last three months.

Explaining the new “Fund Me” feature in the App, Salami described it as a game changer that will revolutionise the educational sector in the country.

“We just introduced a feature called Fund Me which is aimed to make education free.

“Students who want to pay school fees but have no money can go to the app which allows you to raise free funds only meant for tuition, lecture materials and other academic expenses in any school. The money can’t be taken out.

“What we did was to mobilise advertisers to place their advert on the app and charge them per view which will go to the students for watching the same advert.

“They can earn up to N4,000 a day and up to N100,000 monthly depending on their engagement.

“We observed that if only 10 percent of the advertising budget in Nigeria is made available to fund education, nearly 50 percent of students will get it free. This to us is a game changer for the education sector in Nigeria especially for the students. It will solve a lot of things”, he stated.

He added that “What we are trying to do is to reward learning and knowledge and encourage them to get glue to their technology for positive opportunities”.

He said the reality is that things have changed and bettings and gambling have taken over the thinking and activities of the students.

“They want to make quick money and anything that is not giving them such at that level will not fly. Any initiative we are bringing to impact education now must be motivation driven.

“We are aware that the orientation outside today is that if it’s not motivating, education is no longer encouraging.

“Our youth have been hijacked, they no longer think of learning again because it is not giving them that immediately gain. That is why BBN and other immoral activities are thriving because of the huge cash and other enticing packages”.

Salami, who is also an industrialist, said it has not been easy getting sponsors because of the lack of interest in educational programmes.

“They believe it will not give them that audience, but we have to do everything to ensure we succeed, especially with technology”, he said.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Wahab Egbewole (SAN), praised the students for excelling in the competition and pledged to collaborate with Mobile Classroom Limited to enhance learning outcomes in the institution.

The star price winner from the university, Alabi Ayomide Ayobami, a student of Mass Communication, thanked the organisers for the monetary rewards and her lecturer who sent the link to the class which ensured their participation.
