Destruction of public properties in Lagos scary — Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos on Thursday said the level of destruction of properties in Lagos State on Wednesday is scary.

Speaking at an Arise TV interview, the governor confirmed that there have been all sorts of conspiracy theories about the attack on public facilities.

He however said the security agencies are working on the conspiracy theories.

The governor wondered why hoodlums would begin to destroy properties meant for public use in the name of #EndSARS.

Daily Trust reports that on Wednesday dozens of public properties including bus terminals and several mass transit buses, Oba of Lagos palace, local government council headquarters were razed in the aftermath of Tuesday’s shooting of #EndSARS protesters at Lekki.

The governor who reiterated that the Lekki incident does not represent who he was disclosed that an investigation into the shooting might begin on Monday.

But the governor urged all Lagosians to reflect on the destruction of the public properties. “Are there other agenda we do not know? Why would we have this level of destruction? These are the scary thoughts that I have been having since,” he said.

The governor said it is a tough time for the state and the people but assured that with the cooperation and the commitment of everybody the state would emerge stronger and better.

“For me it is scary. I asked myself how did we get here? Is this about #EndSARS? How will somebody be destroying brand new buses? How will somebody be destroying our heritage? How will people be destroying the highest traditional institution in the state,” he queried.

He said this is the time for healing process and called on the people to begin to engage one another towards a healing and reconciliation process.
