The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee  ( LPPC ) has withdrawn the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria ( SAN ) and all the privileges attached to the rank forthwith from Mr. Kunle Ogunba for professional misconduct.

Hadizatu Uwani Mustapha, Chief Registrar ( CR ) of the Supreme Court and Secretary LPPC announced this on Thursday, January 11, 2018.

The decision was reached at the 129th meeting of the LPPC, following investigation into Honwell group petitioned against Kunle Ogunba alleging misconduct against him.

The misconduct alleged consist institution of multiple cases at the Federal High Court before different judges on the same subject matter with deliberate aim of abusing process of court and derailing course of justice.

After a thorough investigation by a sub committee of the LPPC it was decided that the petition was merritorous.

Consequently LPPC at its 129 meeting has withdrawn the SAN rank and all its privileges attached to the rank forthwith from Ogunba.

Another erring lawyer Oluwatoyi Ajoke Bashorun, the only female lawyer conferred with the SAN rank  on July 6, 2017 also lost the rank and was barred from applying for same for the next 3 years, beginning from 2018.

Oluwatoyin Ajoke Bashorun, stayed and continued to stay in a rented property for nine years without paying rent.

According to the LPPC, she is however at liberty to apply after 3 years subject to good behaviour as assessed by LPPC.

Daily Trust recall that barely 48 hours to the conferment of the prestigious rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria on her and 29 other lawyers by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN), Justice Walter Nkanu Onnoghen and Chairman LPPC, the LPPC removed Oluwatoyin Ajoke Bashorun’s name, that was earlier shortlisted from the list of qualified lawyers.
