Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, has advised Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) patients to embrace formal education and acquire skills that will sustain them after undergoing repairs.
Dr Balarabe who gave this advice while interacting with the patients after commissioning a Skill Acquisition Unit at the Hajiya Gambo Sawaba Memorial Hospital Zaria, also said that they can access loans from Kaduna Women Empowerment Fund (KADSWEF) to set up businesses.
The Deputy Governor further advised the VVF patients to utilise the skills they will acquire at the centre to improve their standard of living, adding that Kaduna State Government is interested in developing the Human Capital of its citizens.
Dr Balarabe also said that the Malam Nasir El-Rufai-led administration lays so much emphasis on health, education and skills acquisition, adding that government is poised to do more for the people.
According to her, education is free and compulsory in Kaduna State up to secondary school level and that government is doing its best to boost skills acquisition amongst those who cannot further their education.
Deputy Governor Balarabe decried the trauma, stigma and neglect that VVF patients often suffer in the society, adding that ‘’it is an obligation on us as a government, to meet the needs of people that are suffering within the society.”
Wife of the Governor and VVF Ambassador, Hajiya Aisha Ummi El-Rufai expressed gratitude to the state government for supporting VVF patients and the vulnerable in the society.
