Delta hauls 648 medals to retain National Sports Festival title

Team Delta has again emerged as the champions of the 21st National Sports Festival (NSF) as the competition ended on Saturday at the Stephen Keshi stadium, Asaba, Delta State. 

Team Delta topped the medals table after winning 320 gold, 200 silver, and 129 bronze for a total\ of 648 medals while Team Bayelsa, came second with 132 gold, 115 silver and 90 bronze. Team Edo finished third with 78 gold, 94 silver, and 167 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the last five positions on the medals table were occupied by five northern states.

Jigawa finished 33rd with 2 silver, 6 bronze while Jigawa finished 34th with 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

Sokoto earned 1 silver and 2 bronze while Gombe won 6 bronze medals. 

Zamfara is the only State that ended the festival without a medal

One of the major highlights of the festival was when Adekalu Fakorede emerged the fastest man to win gold in men’s 100 meters in a time of 10.25sec

Sunday Akintan of Oyo State won the silver with 10.32sec, while Mabilo of Edo State timed 10.34secs for the bronze.

In the women’s 100meters, Tima Godless finished 11.32Secs to win the gold for Bayelsa while Delta’s Okwose Faith won silver in 11.50secs while Ofoku Praise picked bronze with a time of 11.57sec.
