A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and several officers have been killed in an early morning ambush in Delta State, while another DPO is in a critical condition after a kidnap rescue mission went awry.
The tragic incident, which occurred near Agbarho Rail Station, was revealed by Delta Human Rights Activist, Comrade Israel Joe, in a Facebook post on Monday morning.
According to the activist, the ambush took place around 1:00 am, resulting in a heavy gunfire exchange between the police and the kidnappers.
“The new DPO of Agbarho, who resumed just two days ago, was among those killed,” Comrade Joe stated. “He was ambushed alongside the DPO of Orerokpe, CSP Paul, and their team during a rescue mission.”

Comrade Joe expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that the Orerokpe DPO had been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
“I am deeply pained by this news. Just yesterday (Sunday), I had a conversation with the Agbarho DPO about the conduct of his officers, and he acted swiftly to caution his men against any misconduct. This loss is heartbreaking,” he added.
He further extended his condolences to the Nigeria Police Force and the families of the fallen officers saying, “These officers gave their lives in the line of duty. None of these criminals should be spared.”
Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
