Defence headquarters establish Operation 777 to re-jig military operations

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said it has set up Operation 777 to reinvigorate existing military operations across the country.

The Defence spokesman, Brigadier General John Agim, made this known at a press conference yesterday in Abuja.

He said, “on 8th October, 2018, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin, established an operation code named: Operation 777.”

“Operation 777 is intended to re-energise our operations.  I am happy to observe that various operations across the nation have assumed new vigor which have recorded a lot of successes in the last few weeks,”

Already the military has Operation Whirle Punch established to fight banditry and armed robbery along Abuja-Kaduna road and Birnin Gwari area in Kaduna state.

Operation Delta Safe established to curb oil theft, pipeline vandalism, illegal oil bunkering and militancy activities in the Niger Delta region.

Operation Awatse set up to confront the challenges of illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism in the area between the Atlas Cove and Mosimi Depot in Lagos and Ogun states.

Operation Safe Haven to maintain peace in Plateau state which was later expanded to cover some part of Bauchi and Kaduna states.

Operation Sharan Daji was established to fight against cattle rustling and banditry activities within the North West which include; Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Kebbi states.

Clearance operations was created to checkmate the activities of kidnappers, armed robbery and other form of criminalities within the North Central, especially Kogi state.

Operation Whirle Stroke was established to curtail the escalating spate of herdsmen/farmers conflict as well as armed banditry in parts of Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states.

General Agim said the spate of herdsmen/farmers crisis and armed banditry in some parts of the country has been greatly reduced.

He added that cases of illegal bunkering and other forms of criminality in the Niger Delta are being tackled.

He said, “Operations 777 which commenced on October 10, 2018, is running concurrently and geared towards enhancing a conducive and stable environment for socio-economic activities and the safety of Nigerians.”
