The Rural Women and Girl Child Initiative, (RWGCI) has commended Governor Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers State, for defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Coordinator of the group, Ms. Theresa Ushie Akwaji, said in a statement in Abuja, that the governor’s move shows that he was a man of courage and sagacity.
Akwaji who urged Ayade to be transparent and accountable as those qualities are the hallmark of the party, described the defection as one that was much expected and appreciated.
“Cross-River as a state, cannot afford to remain in the opposition. I commend you for recognizing this fact and doing the needful for the good and prosperity of our dear state, this goes a long way to show that you are conscious of the welfare of the people in the state.
“I enjoin you to be transparent, committed and accountable because these are the hallmarks of the ruling part as I believe in good spirit that your defection will enrich our internal democracy, further strengthen the party and in all improve our electoral process in Cross River State,” she said.
She also commended Governor Maimala Buni of Yobe State, for creating an enabling environment in the APC that can promote justice, performance and service delivery, which encouraged Governor Ben Ayade and Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State to join the party.
She said, “Governor Buni who is the APC National Committee Chairman, has a unique and stellar leadership style which he uses to recognize people who can genuinely work for the progress of the party.
“Our Perseverance kept the party alive and has provided a credible alternative for Governor Ben Ayade to defect and you wonder why we are rejoicing? we are rejoicing because we stood firm and believed in the movement.”
