Defamation: Five months after arraignment, ex-commissioner apologises to Ganduje

Five months after a court ordered his remand in a correctional facility over alleged defamation of character of his former boss, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former appointee, Engr. Mu’az Magaji, has apologised to the governor.

Magaji, who was once the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in Ganduje’s cabinet, was in January arraigned before a Kano Magistrate Court over a Facebook post said to be injurious to the governor and his family.

He was later remanded in a correctional facility for days until he later met his bail condition.

But, five months later, Magaji went to the same Facebook page to tender what he described as a public apology to the governor.

“I do sincerely apologise for the pain and distress my posting may have unintentionally caused HE Ganduje and his family,” reads the post in part.

In 2021, he resigned his membership from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He later contested the governorship position in the party but lost during the recently concluded primaries.
