Defamation: Absence of judge stalls Chioma’s arraignment

The absence of Justice Peter Lifu of a Federal High Court in Abuja has stalled the arraignment of Chioma Edoka Okoli, also known as Chioma Egodi Jnr.

A staff of the court informed parties on Thursday that Justice Lifu was not disposed to sitting, hence that the court had assigned May 28, as the next adjourned date.

Recall that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) filed a two-count charge against Chioma; and Happiness Obas and Don Kashking (both said to be at large) on alleged conspiracy to send a message on Facebook through the handle: “Chioma Egodi Jnr”, with the intention instigating people against Erisco Foods Limited.

According to the charge, the defendants knew the said “information to be false and with intent to cause annoyance, inconvenience, danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to Erisco Foods Limited, the management and members of the family,”contrary to Section 27(1)(b) and 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrime Prohibition Act.
