Decomposing body of business woman found inside gutter

There was panic along Akali Street and environs in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, as a decomposed body of a woman, identified as Ese was found in a gutter in the street.

The deceased, said to be the mother of three children, hailed from the Egbo community of Delta State.

According to the residents of the area, the deceased, whose decomposed body was found on Sunday, January 7, was a popular trader who dealt in cow skin, popularly known as kpomo at the Opolo market in Yenagoa.

They said the corpse was discovered following an offensive odour around the environment before the neighbours began to search for its source.

Upon the discovery of the decomposed body, the signs showed that she must have been strangled and dragged a few kilometres to the gutter.

Already, the family members of the deceased are accusing her ex-husband and father of her children, who many claimed was engaged in a dangerous domestic violence with the deceased even though they were separated last year.

The younger sister of the deceased, identified as Precious, was said to have informed a family member after search that her aunty was lying inside the gutter.

The former husband who they claimed is nowhere to be found and had his mobile phone switched off is identified as Collins. They also alleged that he was the last person who visited the deceased at home and engaged in a serious quarrel with her.

Precious said: “On the 27th of December, 2023, she met him on the road, and forcefully retrieved the children back to the house. Thereafter the same day, he came to our house in the night, and that was the last day I saw my aunty.

“The following day, he came and we inquired to know where my aunty was since we didn’t see her throughout the night. He (Collins) claimed the deceased travelled and would be back by Sunday.”

Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, ASP Musa Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the police team has already evacuated the corpse of the deceased, while investigation has commenced to unravel the cause of the death.
