Protesters who are members and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State have given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) 24 hours to declare the results of last Saturday’s elections in Plateau Central.

Spokesman of the stakeholders and former speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Titus Alams, who led the protesters to INEC’s office in Jos yesterday, said the protest became necessary having waited for four weeks for INEC to declare the results.

He said, “We are protesting because we believe the senatorial election being held by INEC was won by PDP and our senatorial flagbearer, Yohanna Gotom.

“It is said that justice delayed is justice denied; the silence of INEC in this election is giving us serious concerns.

“It is our expectation that INEC as independent umpire should not allow itself to be coerced into compromising the position of the law thereby leading people of the zone into anarchy.

“The party zonal coalition officer has petitioned INEC over the election, but INEC remained mute. We are by this protest giving INEC 24 hours to declare the results otherwise we shall take the necessary legal action to compel INEC to declare the results.”
