The death toll in the Tuesday night bandits’ attack on Kachiwe Community under Sarkin Pawa ward, Munya Local Government area of Niger State has risen to 50.
Earlier media reports had said about 30 people died in the attack.

A source from the community told our correspondent that bandits invaded the community during a heavy rain around 10pm shooting from every direction.
“They came when heavy rain was falling. Everybody was at home. They took control of the village, shooting from every direction. Those who attempted to run were shot. About 50 people died while some were injured,” he said.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, confirmed the attack.
“Yes, it was true. Some houses were burnt while some those injured are receiving treatments at a hospital.”
“In Kachiwe, 13 people were killed. In Shafe, not far from Kachiwe, they killed 9 people. In another, village, the number of death has not been established. Some people said five while some said six. And what they did after the attack on those villagers, they shot anybody they saw on their way out of the village.”
Matane reiterated the state government’s commitment towards security of lives and property of its people.
