Dealer arrested for allegedly buying stolen cars

A car dealer, Samuel Durojaiye, has been arrested for allegedly buying stolen vehicles from robbery gangs in Lagos State.

It was learnt that the arrest followed the arrest of a mechanic involved in the selling of 14 stolen cars.

Durojaiye said, “I only bought two cars from the mechanic. Though I knew that the Toyota Corolla was stolen, the Lexus jeep is actually a car that was impounded by the Nigeria Customs Service in Kogi. I paid N1.3m for the Corolla and N3.7m for the Lexus 300 jeep.

Lagos State police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said both vehicles were tracked to the dealer’s auto stand in the Falomo area of Lagos.

Hundeyin further said that David Kesh was the mechanic who had sold over 14 vehicles belonging to his customers.

He said David, under the pretense of being a mechanic, collected vehicles from victims and in turn bolted away with them.

He further said, “He will move the vehicles to an auto stand belonging to Samuel. Samuel, a car dealer, will refurbish the vehicles before selling them to unsuspecting members of the public.”
