Day Kano community celebrated ‘hardworking’ DPO

Members of Fagge community in Kano metropolis have recognised the effort of the DPO of Fagge Police Division, in charge of Fagge A to D1, CSP Abubakar Hamma, with an award for transforming the community from a crime hub to a peaceful one.

Fagge is one of the largest and highly populated LGAs in Kano. It is surrounded by markets, making it a very busy community. However, the many socio-economic activities and various people it attracted, among others, have made it to be associated with a lot of crimes – drug abuse, phone snatching and thuggery, among others.

“But the coming of Hamma has transformed our community and changed the perception of even the criminally-minded to embrace peace and legitimate means of getting their livelihood, particularly the youth,” said one of the community members, who is a lawyer, Abba Hikima.

The PCRC chairman of the area, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, said they decided to honour the DPO to encourage him to continue with the hard work and also appeal to other officers to emulate him.

He recalled that Fagge area was known for criminal activities and drug abuse, adding that “I can tell you that we are now in paradise in terms of peace and unity in this community.”

On his part, the Chairman of Fagge Local Government said the DPO has transformed Fagge from a crisis hot spot to a peaceful place and conducive environment for residents and businesses.

He said the community members also deserve commendation for their cooperation with the DPO, adding that without their support, success would be difficult to achieve.

Meanwhile, the state PCRC chairman, Comrade Saleh Jiji, has tasked the community members to embrace community policing and be vigilant of any suspicious activity in the area.

Speaking to Daily Trust after the event, the awardee, CSP Abubakar Hamma said the police is a friend to all and should relate well with them to achieve his goal.

He said the award is not for him alone but all his colleagues and the community members themselves, as without their support he couldn’t have made it.

He appealed to the people to embrace community policing in order to get adequate security in the country.
