Nigerian Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced that he will be donating the sum of N300 million to orphanages across the country this year.

Daily Trust reports that Nigerians have been complaining bitterly about the high cost of living, food inflation and hardship in the nation.

In a post via X on Tuesday, Davido explained that the outreach would be coordinated through his foundation.

Davido stated that he is keeping up with the annual tradition of contributing to the nation that he started some years ago.

According to him, details of the disbursement would be unveiled soon.

“I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the Nation ❤️ .. details of disbursement tomorrow 🇳🇬,” he wrote

Daily Trust reports that this is not the first time OBO is engaging in charitable courses as he disbursed N237 million to 424 orphanages in 2023.

The donations came 16 months after he distributed N250m to 292 Nigerian orphanages.

Before his birthday in November 2021, what started as a joke after the singer challenged his colleagues to contribute N1m each for him, suddenly turned out to be one of the biggest fundraisers in recent times in Nigeria, as Davido accumulated N200m within 78 hours.

The donations were unending.

After a few days, the celebrated singer revealed he had initially wanted to use the funds to clear his brand new Rolls Royce from the Lagos port before deciding to give the money to orphanages across the country; thus, a five-person committee was formed and chaired by Titi Adebayo.

The singer published a list of orphanages that benefited from the disbursement.
