Daughter accuses father of molestation in Kano

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Kano office, says it is investigating a father for allegedly sexually molesting his two daughters aged 17 and 12.

The Kano State Coordinator of the agency, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, said the 17-year-old lodged a complaint against her father who she said had been molesting her for about seven years as well as her 12-year-old sister.

He said after preliminary investigations, the 17-year-old and her two sisters were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital where experts confirmed that two of the girls had been sexually abused but that the 8-year-old did not suffer any.

“Medical reports indicate that out of the three children, two have been abused and luckily the youngest of them, who is about eight years has not been molested.

“The National Human Rights Commission is currently collaborating with the Kano State Ministry of Justice to prosecute the father who happens to be a security personnel,” he said.

Also, Alhaji Shehu said the NHRC had also commenced investigation to unravel the mystery behind the solitary confinement of a 13-year-old boy by his mother.

He maintained that the 40-year-old mother of eight said she is from Madagali in Adamawa State and relocated to Kano due to insurgency and had been confining the boy due to his mental state.  She is the breadwinner of the family, and had to tie him to stop him from hurting himself or moving out of the house.

The coordinator said the case had been referred to the Kano State Emergency Management Agency for appropriate action.

“The woman relocated from Madagali and her marriage was dissolved due to her husband’s mental disability. She has eight children, three are mentally retarded and out of the three, two died and the third one is currently living with her, she confines the boy to prevent him from harming himself when she goes out to source for food,” he said.
