The chairman of the PDP in Plateau State, Damishi Sango, said yesterday that the defection of Senator Joshua Dariye from the PDP to the APC at this time of recession exposes the parliamentarian as insensitive to the plight of the people he represents.
Sango said what Dariye’s constituents need at this time was quick solution to their economic woos and not political loyalty.
“I think Dariye needs to be pitied and I must say that his action has exposed him to ridicule. Recession is biting harder on our economy, and serious minded politicians in office and outside of office are generating concerns and raising suggestions for the government to implement to recover from the economic crises, but Dariye would rather go for defection,” Sango said.
“How does that help the APC government recover the Nigerian economy? How does that boost the party’s popularity when the people, including Dariye’s constituents, are hungry?”
Dariye, a former governor of the state representing Plateau-Central, announced his defection in a letter read by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, at last Thursday’s plenary. It was his second defection from the PDP, the first being in 2011 when he went to the Senate under the banner of the Labour party, only to return to the PDP when the 2015 elections were drawing closer.
