The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has inaugurated a committee to investigate factors responsible for the abysmal performance of the Team Nigeria at the just concluded 2019 World Athletics Championship held in Doha, Qatar.

While inaugurating the committee, Dare tasked members of the committee to unravel the “facts, figures and falsehoods” of the lacklustre performance at the Doha.

“You will therefore appreciate the concern of the Ministry on the less than impressive performance of athletes of the Team Nigeria in Doha.

“There were arguments and counter arguments of indiscipline and headiness. However, there can be no smoke without fire.

“Your Committee is therefore to unearth the smoke that billowed to the fire of indiscipline that deprived the nation of its enviable position at the 2019 World Athletics Champion.

“You are also saddled with the responsibility to unravel the events that led to the disqualification of two promising athletes of the AFN and the response to the enquiry of the ministry on same,” he said.

The committee was also tasked to evaluate and advise on the response of the Technical Director of the AFN, Mr. Sunday Adeleye to the query issued to him while establishing outstanding claims to Athletes and Officials.

The committee is headed by Prof. Ken Anugweje to be supported by Dr. Umar Bindir, Mr. Rotimi Obajimi,  Alh. Ibrahim Galadima, Mr. Dare Esan, Amb. Mary Onyali, Chief Falilat Ogunkoya and Mrs. Maria Wophill who is the Secretary and have a week to send in their reports to the ministry.

In his acceptance speech, Anugweje said the committee is aware of the task before them and promised to be impartial in their fact finding mission.
