President, Dangote Foundation, Aliko Dangote, has lauded initiative of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, to train Lawyers to improve legal rights and protection of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in North-east, Nigeria
The 4-Day training workshop, in conjunction with a Bar organisation dedicated to International Human Rights-the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales (BHRC), commenced yesterday at the International Training Institute, Abuja.
Dangote said the training would increase capacity of lawyers to promote Rule of Law in the country.
He said the foundation was partnering NBA in effort to share its own values and objectives on humanitarian service in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in improving the welfare of not only IDPs, but the generality of Nigerians, and the African continent.
The foundation had donated billions of Naira to displaced persons aside donations of foods, relief materials, provision of clothing, primary health centres, immunisations and resettlement.
Dangote was represented by CEO Dangote foundation, Mrs Zouera Youssoufou.
The workshop was declared open by NBA President, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, who also signed a Memorandum of Understanding, with the BHRC, represented by its Chairwoman, Kirsty Brimelow QC of the Doughty Street Chambers and Professor Muhammed Tabiu (SAN).
The foreword, of the training manual, signed by Brimelow said the BHRC’s core objective is to provide pro-bono legal support and remedies for judges, lawyers and human rights defenders as well as the vulnerable and disempowered members of the society.
