Dangote Business School (DBS) of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has said that it is working on intervention with a nongovernmental organisation in Kano State, Development Research Project Centre (dRPC), to help women entrepreneurs in the state.
The intervention, according to the school, will, through 10 women NGOs, build the entrepreneurs capacity with the aim of improving them economically through dRPC collaboration.

According to the dean of the school, Talatu Muhammad Barwa, the intervention came at a time it is needed most, adding that there is no better way of assisting women than through economic empowerment.
Similarly, the Principal Investigator of the DBS-dRPC project, Bala Kofar Mata, said the intervention will help scale up women’s businesses.
He said, “Statistics from the National Policy on MSMEs has shown that Nigeria has the highest number of women entrepreneurs in the world. Most of them however are traditional and micro and seem not to be expanding over the years.
“So, this DBS-dRPC collaboration will provide recommendations for the growth and expansion of these women businesses
Speaking on behalf of the women in the coalition, one of them, Maryam Garba Usman, lamented some of the challenges hindering women businesses from growth in the state.
“The criteria for applying grants and loans are unattainable to most of our women. Start-up businesses are usually exempted and the issue of access to information about them, especially to rural women in another issue.”
