Danbatta is telecoms personality of the year

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Professor Umar Danbatta has been awarded the Telecoms Personality of the Year.
The event, which was attended by  the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi and Minister of Communication, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, was held at MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos.
According to the award’s citations, Danbatta was named Telecoms Personality of the Year in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of the telecom sector.
In his remarks, Danbatta said the award was a reflection of the kind of work they have been doing in the commission.
“We have been judged internationally, regionally and now nationally pointing to the regular trail arsenals that we are bringing to bear in the discharge of mandate assigned to us by the commission in a way and manner that this will translate in the socio- economic development of the country,” he added.
Danbatta obtained his BEng, MSc degree from the Technical University of Wroclaw in Poland and his PhD from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology ( UMIST) UK respectively.
He has served as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Technology of Bayero University Kano for 28 years, and held academic positions of Dean of Faculty and Head of Department at different times.
Until his appointment as the EVC of NCC, Danbatta served as the Acting Vice- Chancellor of the Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil.
