Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum has emerged as the consensus gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State.
Damagum, a former Nigerian ambassador to Romania, emerged on Sunday, after his rival, Ambassador Umar Elgash Maina, withdrew from the race, minutes to the commencement of voting at the National Open University of Nigeria venue along Maiduguri road, Damaturu.
Announcing his withdrawal, Amb Algash Maina said it was to consolidate the unity of the party ahead of the 2019 elections. In his acceptance speech, Amb Damagum said he would work with every party member towards ensuring victory for the party.
