Daily Trust’s Ojoma Akor among AMDF finalists for Journalist of the Year award

The Health Editor of Daily Trust, Ojoma Akor has been shortlisted as one of the nine finalists for the African Media Development Foundation (AMDF) 2023 Journalists Of The Year Award.

Others are, Chenemi Bamaiyi of TVC, Chima Azubuike of Punch Newspapers, Christian Njoku of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Jaiyeola Olukayode of Punch Newspapers; Martha Agas of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Philip Yatai of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Shindong Bala of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and Solomon Odeniyi of Punch Newspapers.

A statement by the Executive Director of the foundation, Mrs. Sekyen Dadik, said the finalists were from the five categories of print, online, photo, television and radio.

According to her, “The Panel of Judges for the 2023 AMDF Journalist of the Year Award, chaired by Mr. Joseph Edegbo, Managing Editor of Africa Prime News announced nine finalists for this year’s award.

“The panel chairman said the nine finalists have demonstrated professional skills in their stories by going deep into writing issue-based development stories.

“AMDF will also use the platform to present an Honorary Lifetime Award for Journalistic Excellence to a distinguished media veteran, Hajiya Hauwa Saulawa, former General Manager, Radio Nigeria Companion FM Katsina, for her immeasurable contribution to the promotion of development journalism in Nigeria.

“The award presentation where the winner, runner-up, and commended work will be announced, is scheduled to be held on 6th & 7th December 2023 during the Africa Conference on Development Journalism in Kaduna Nigeria.”

The AMDF Journalist of the Year Award was first introduced in 2016 to promote the culture of in-depth development journalism in the African media space.
