The Bayelsa State correspondent of Daily Trust newspaper, Bassey Willie, has bagged two awards during the 9th edition of the Bayelsa Media Award.
The award was packaged by SQILFUL Konseptz and supported by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and other partners in Bayelsa State.
Willie won two awards, including Best Reporter of the Year on Economy and the Senator Douye Diri (SDD) best reporter of the year for print categories.
Mr Willie’s features on “How Bayelsa youths make fortunes from disposed scraps” won the best report on economy while his report on “Shortage of teachers, infrastructural decay hit Bayelsa public schools” won the Senator Douye Diri award (SDD Award).
Speaking at the award ceremony in Yenagoa, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr Simbi Wabote, said the media has a responsibility to report the situation in the oil and gas industry accurately for the benefit of Nigerians.
He said that can only be done by the press that is knowledgeable and has a deep understanding of the industry.
“Let me challenge the media to take a keen interest in the oil and gas industry to be able to report the sector accurately,” he said.
