A former employee of Daily Trust, Ronald Mutum, is dead. Mutum, who was a Defense and Security correspondent, died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Friday night.
He was earlier diagnosed with cancer and had travelled to Germany for treatment, but died a few months after his return to Nigeria.
The Chairman of the FCT Council Nigeria Union of Journalists, Emmanuel Ogbeche, confirmed the journalist’s death on his Facebook page, saying the deceased fought bravely.
He also commended his wife who stood by the pen pusher till the end.
“I hear you have gone the way of all mortals. It is a sad one, but you needed the rest. I was happy and relieved when you and your amazing wife came to the NUJ in February to especially thank me and the council for our modest support towards your surgery in Germany. But it has pleased God to call you home. May you find rest eternal,” he said.
A former Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Jimoh Moshood, said Mutum was a friend to everyone.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. May the good Lord grant him paradise and be with the family he left behind,” Moshood said.
