The Daily Trust Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Media Trust Group (MTG), has concluded a capacity building for online managers of media platforms on ways to increase their engagement with online readers.
The 3-day meeting, which is being held at the corporate headquarters of MTG in Abuja had participants from different media houses across the country.
According to the Director of the foundation, Dr. Theophilus Abbah, the training was conducted to broaden the knowledge of participants on the type of contents to give their online audience.
Abah noted that with the population of newsreaders moving to online, news organisations need to tailor their news in an engaging manner to retain their readership and attention of the new generation of readers.

A participant from Leadership Newspaper, Pamela Ephraim, said the training has been insightful, interactive and engaging.
“I look forward to implementing the newly acquired strategies towards improving my content creation skills,’ she said.
A Social Media Manager with Kiin MEDIA, Ganiyu Adekunle Saheed, said he got to understand the difference between been a social media manager and a community manager “With the latter having to do with commitment to the audience you are to grow which in turn are loyal to your ideas and this create a bond between with us al.”
He stated that while social media managers just need to be more personal while creating content and engagements, they need more of this type of training to enable them to prepare and engage their online community.
The Editor of Online People’s Daily, Augustine Aminu, said the training indicated that the future of journalism lies in ‘engagement journalism’ and the use of social media is providing the solution.
“I advise journalists to equip themselves with relevant knowledge to ensure effectiveness and have an edge in carrying their day to day duties in engaging their audience actively,” he said.
