The Daily Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust titles, on Monday, began a two-day undercover reporting training for corps members and journalists drawn from several media houses across the country.

The training, being held in Abuja, aims to equip the participants with the tools to hold government officials accountable through in-depth undercover investigations.

In his remarks, the chairman, Board of Trustees, Daily Trust Foundation, Malam Bilya Bala, urged the participants to develop the habit of doing undercover stories.

Represented by Malam Mannir Dan-Ali, member, Board of Trustees, Daily Trust Foundation, Bala noted that the impact of such stories makes journalists distinctive and unique in the profession.

He, therefore, urged participants to put the knowledge learnt to use.

“Put the knowledge learnt to use. Undercover reporting is more like getting a deep investigation. The power of investigation is a lot,” he said.

The Programme Director, Daily Trust Foundation, Theophilus Abbah, noted that undercover journalism sells a journalist.

He charged the participants to be inquisitive in generating ideas for stories that would make a change in the country.

Facilitators admonished participants to steer clear of “brown envelopment” if they want to succeed in undercover reporting.
