A commercial cyclist, identified as Aliyu, and a herder have been arrested over alleged possession of a stolen ram at Abaji cattle market in the area council.
A member of the vigilante in the area, Musa Ibrahim, said the cyclist and the herder allegedly stole the ram at a Fulani settlement in Kenyehu village in Toto LGA of Nasarawa State.
He said the herder engaged the cyclist to convey the ram from the village to the Abaji cattle market to sell when he was apprehended alongside the cyclist.
He said, “The owner of the ram, who is also a Fulani man, came to the market on Saturday and reported that his ram was stolen at his settlement. And that they should help him keep an eye on whoever may bring a ram to sell.’’
He said the herder was negotiating to sell the ram at the market when the buyer suspected the ram to be stolen and alerted the Fulani man.
According to him, the owner identified the ram to be his, adding that both the herder and cyclist were immediately apprehended.
He said both the suspect and the cyclist were handed over to security personnel at the market by the vigilantes.
Abuja Metro also learnt that a similar incident happened two weeks ago when a suspect was arrested at the market with a stolen goat.
The spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, could not be reached at the time of filling the report.
