Cybersecurity is anti-privacy rights

While acknowledging the necessity of robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard against cyber threats and protect national security, it is paramount to underscore the inadvertent but consequential impact on individual privacy rights. The pursuit of cybersecurity, if not carefully calibrated, can infringe upon the fundamental human right to privacy.

In the pursuit of fortifying digital defences, there is a growing concern about the extensive collection of personal data, surveillance programs, and the overarching reach of monitoring systems. These measures, although intended to secure our digital landscape, can inadvertently erode the very essence of privacy rights that are integral to human dignity and autonomy.

The right to privacy is enshrined in various international human rights instruments and serves as a cornerstone of democratic societies. It encompasses the ability of individuals to control their personal information, communications, and identities, free from unwarranted intrusion or surveillance.

As we navigate the complexities of cybersecurity, it is imperative to strike a balance between protecting national interests and upholding the fundamental rights of individuals. Any cybersecurity strategy must integrate robust safeguards that prevent the overreach of surveillance and data collection, thereby ensuring that citizens’ privacy rights remain intact.
