Cyber bullying: We’re Proud of You, Sports Minister Encourages Iwobi

Minister of Sports Development, Sen John Enoh, has encouraged Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi to be strong amid cyberbullying by some Nigerians.

Iwobi has been under attack over his performance at the just concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cote D’Ivoire.

The 27-year-old was told not to honour any national call again but should hang his boots over his outing at AFCON.

Subsequently, Iwobi said he had pulled out of social media for now when he could not cope with cyberbullies from aggrieved fans across the country.

He shared his thought with Enoh in a viral video, as the latter assured him that it was the minority of Nigerians that attacked him on social media.

Enoh told Iwobi that the whole of Nigerians are solidly behind him and proud of his performance at the tournament.

“I’m aware of something that is going on social media,” Enoh told Iwobi.

But Iwobi replied, “For me, I’ve taken myself off social media. I’m not aware of those things, after the departure of yesterday’s game.”

The Minister further said, “As a ministry it is not the first time we experience this kind of bullying and that is not just you but other sportsmen or sportswomen are exposed to because of outcome of..

“We are very concerned about our sportsmen are treated and I saw what Ahmed Musa wrote and all of you (as support) you don’t deserve that (cyberbullying).

“We are very proud of you, and I believe the rest of the country is (proud of you as well). Those who are not are part of the minority. And that is why Mr President himself will receive some of you. Thank you for your great work. Just be strong.”

Super Eagles legend, Austin JayJay Okocha, has also thrown his weight behind his nephew that he was proud of him.
