Customs seizes N40.5m smuggled goods

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)

The Federal Operations Unit (Zone B) of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) ‎has seized smuggled goods worth N40.530 million in Duty Paid Value (DPV).

Comptroller Al-Bashir Hamisu disclosed this at the zone’s headquarters along Kaduna-Zaria highway on Wednesday.

He said the seizures were made within the zone as he vowed that customs will continue to secure the borders against smugglers.

He listed some of the seized goods to include 484 parcels of Indian hemp, 373 bags of foreign rice, vegetable oil of 45kg capacity and 48 bales of second-hand clothes.

“The duty paid value of these items is N40,526,273 million. My message to these smugglers is that we are not going to rest and we will make sure that we follow them into their bedroom just to stop them from bringing in rice and other banned goods into this country,” he said

The comptroller handed over the 484 parcels of seized Indian hemp to the Kaduna State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Uche Iyke.

In his remarks, Mr Iyke commenced the customs for the good job and urged them to sustain the onslaught on smugglers.
