Customs seizes cannabis, others worth N266m

He warned smugglers to desist from their activities and support the government

The Nigeria Customs Service (NIS) said it has seized 404 blocks of cannabis sativa worth N32 million in Sokoto State.

It said other contraband items worth N234m were also seized from NIS Zone “B”, comprising Sokoto and Kebbi states, in the second quarter of 2021.

Displaying the items Wednesday in Sokoto, the coordinator, Comptroller General of Customs’ Strike Force in charge of Zone “B”, Deputy Comptroller Olurukoba Oseni Aliyu, said other items seized included, foreign rice, jerry cans of vegetable oil, spaghetti and bales of fairly used clothes.

He said, “The cannabis is what the bandits are taking before raiding and killing our brothers and sisters.”

He warned smugglers to desist from their activities and support the government in its effort to make the country better.

While receiving the seized cannabis, the representative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mustapha Baba-Ali, commended NIS for the seizure.
