Nigerian Customs Service Comptroller in charge of Federal Operations Unit Zone B, Mustapha Sarkin Kebbi has said the Zone has seized smuggled goods worth N360.2 million within a month.
The comptroller while displaying the items to journalists in Kaduna listed the goods seized to include 3,342 kg bags of foreign rice; 34 smuggled vehicles, 923 cartons of foreign sets of ecolac boxes, 668 NPK fertiliser bags and 699 kegs of 30 litres each of vegetable oil.
Other items include 217 bales of second hand clothing; 458 footwear sacks, 37 cartons of foreign soap, 180 sacks of dates, 25 sacks of tiger nuts, 155 parcels of Indian hemp and 2 sacks of uncertified drugs.
He said some of the interceptions and seizures were made along Jibi’a in Katsina as well as in Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kano and Kwara states all under the Command’s jurisdiction.
The comptroller urged the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria ( RIFAN) and other stakeholders to support the customs in its fight against smugglers in the country.
