Customs intercept N23m worth donkey meat, skin

The Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) in Kebbi State said it has intercepted a truck load of donkey meat and skin being transported out of the country through the border towns of Kamba and Maje areas of the state.

While briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, Customs Area Controller, Kebbi Command, Dr Ben Oramalugo, said his men were able to intercept the donkey meat and skin that were about to be smuggled out of the country through Bunza/Maje axis of Kebbi State following an intelligence report.

He said the seized donkey meat and skin are valued at over N23m while the truck is worth N10m. He added that one person was arrested in connection with the smuggling of donkey meat and skin.

He said “We detailed our officers to increase surveillance along the said routes. And through stop-and-search, the officers were able to intercept a truck load of donkey meat and skin.”

He however, said two of their operational vehicles were vandalized by the smugglers but with the assistance of other security operatives, they were able to intercept the truck and its contents, and one person was also arrested.
