Customs impounds rice, vehicles worth N3.4bn in Ogun

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Ogun State has impounded goods worth N3,400,226,707 in the first half of the year 2022.

The Area Controller, Bamidele Makinde, who disclosed this on Wednesday at a press conference in Abeokuta, said the command generated a total of N29,940,146.50 from import duties and auction sales of petrol seized from smugglers.

Makinde said 25,906 bags of foreign rice were seized in the first six months of the year.

According to him, within the six months the command also impounded 1,433 cartons of frozen poultry products; 72 units of used vehicles; 20 units of used motorcycles; 2,250 sachets of tramadol; 168 packets of codeine; 289 cartons of tomato paste; among many other items.

He said, “The cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) for all the seizures amounted to N3,400,226,707.”
