The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area I Command, has impounded cannabis sativa and Tramadol with a duty-paid value of N117,587,405 from border areas across the state.
The hemp included 5,256 coconut-size wraps, 46 book-size wraps, 1,202 bread-size wraps and 403 sacks, all worth DPV of N117m.
The Area Controller, Comptroller James Ojo, disclosed this during a media briefing on the interception and handing over of the contraband to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abeokuta.
According to Ojo, the 403 sacks and 6,504 parcels of hemp and 362 packs of Tramakin tablets of 225mg each were seized at the Agbawo/Igankoto area of Yewa North LGA, and the Imeko Afon axis, among others.
He said that the seizures showed the severity of drug trafficking, adding that the height of illicit drug smuggling in recent times was very alarming and worrisome.
The area controller said, “From January to 21 November 2024, through credible intelligence and strategic operations, the operatives of the Ogun I Command intercepted and seized substantial quantities of cannabis sativa and Tramakin tablets, another brand of Tramadol.
Ojo while commending the officers for their vigilance and courage, warned those who engage in the nefarious trade of drug trafficking and other smuggling activities to desist.
The Commander NDLEA, Idiroko Command, Olusegun Adeyeye, while receiving the exhibits, applauded the customs operatives’ doggedness, efforts and contributions in the fight against illicit drugs.
He said the seizure is a testament that NDLEA and Customs are synergising in the fight against drug abuse.
