Customs impounds 6,743 bags of rice, hemp in Ogun

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area Command (I), has intercepted 6,743 bags of foreign rice.

The command also generated N28,445,757 through import duties, auction sales of vehicles and petroleum products between January and February, this year.

The Area Controller, Bamidele Makinde, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command in the last two months.

Makinde said the command made 115 seizures during the period with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N231,218,506.

He said the seizures were made in locations such as Abeokuta, Ilaro and Ipokia/Idiroko.

He listed the contrabands as 19,806 liters of petrol, 18 units of vehicles used for the conveyance of smuggled goods, 64 sacks and 824 wraps of Indian hemp.

Others are 29 pieces of artefacts, 73 bales of second hand clothing, 900 pieces of used tyres and 520 cartons of poultry products.
