Customs hits teen while pursuing smugglers

Stray bullets allegedly fired by customs officers during a pursuit of smugglers hit and injured a 12-year-old primary six boy Bello Salisu.

At Morawa village of Batagarawa Local Government Area when suspected smugglers carrying rice and second-hand clothes were evading arrests.

Eyewitnesses said the customs officials were shooting sporadically when the bullets allegedly hit the boy on his hand and neck. The boy was said to be by the road side heading home after closing from school.

He was admitted at the Katsina General Hospital. 

The Katsina/Kaduna Customs command spokesman, Duniya Peters, speaking through a sit-in officer and the Command’s Audit Officer, Ibrahim said the Command was not aware of the incident.
