The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Zone D Bauchi has handed over a consignment of hard drugs to the state command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The hard drugs consisting of 840 packets of 120 mg Tramadol and 4,437 packets of Diazepam worth N7,350,000 which were confiscated after a raid on a Warehouse in Gombe.
Zonal Comptroller, Zone D Federal Operations, Peters Olugboyega handed over the consignment to NDLEA Bauchi State Command Drugs Superintendent and Exhibit Officer ,Nasuru Nuhu Babura.
The Comptroller disclosed that the drugs were confiscated in a joint operation by Customs operatives from Abuja and the Zonal Headquarters who raided the hard drugs store on Thursday, 13th September, 2018 in Gombe.
Olugboyega said that a suspect was arrested during the raid and will be prosecuted.
He said that, the drugs are classified under “Common External Tariff, Heading 3004 at zero percent duty and no Value Added Tax (VAT) which he said requires permission before they are imported under NAFDAC Narcotic Control.
“Therefore the task to salvage the youths and even some adults of this country from the menace of Drug peddlers is a collective one and non-negotiable, all hands must be on deck to make the country’s drug free society,” he added.
He warned that the Customs service will not relent in its efforts to curb and completely curb the activities of people who bring in banned substances and products into the country through unlawful means.
On his part, the NDLEA Bauchi State Command Supritendent of Drugs, Nasuru Babura commended the Customs Service for its vigilance to stop the proliferation of prescription drugs and their illegal importation into the country.
He disclosed that, the NDLEA are working hand in hand with the Nigeria Customs Service to check the activities of drugs importers who distribute prescription drugs to the public to destroy the society.
