Customs hands over N2.5m hemp to NDLEA in Kaduna

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone B, of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over 70 parcels of Indian hemp worth N2,545,200 to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kaduna, Kaduna State.

The FOU’s Controller, Albashir Hamisu, while handing over the drug to the representative of NDLEA, said the parcels were among 132 other seizures made from August 25 to October 27, 2022.

The controller, who noted that the drug, if allowed to reach the hands of the end users might harm society because those using it were mostly criminal elements, said that smugglers were getting sophisticated, but that with the collaboration of customs and other security agencies, efforts were being made to stop them.

Receiving the Indian hemp, NDLEA’s Head of Narcotics at the FOU, Ali Ado Kubau, said an investigation would be conducted to fish out the owners of the parcels.

He noted that criminals used Indian hemp to commit crime, stressing that the agency would continue to partner customs to secure the country from illicit drugs importation.
