The Apapa Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday handed over 20 cartons of 120mg and 225mg Trapaking tablets, a new brand of Tramadol, estimated at N1.560 billion to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The recovered drugs were concealed with sheets in a 1×40ft container falsely declared as containing driving shafts and candy sweets.

Addressing newsmen during the handover of the drugs to the NDLEA at the Classic bonded terminal in Lagos on Wednesday, the newly appointed controller of the command, Auwal Muhammed, said the drugs were uncovered as a result of meticulous inspection and examination conducted on the container.

He said the addresses provided by the clearing agent and importer were fake.

Muhammed said the license of the agent and the Tax Identification Number (TIN) of the importer had been blocked to prevent them from any import transactions while investigations were ongoing to apprehend them and ensure they were prosecuted.

The NDLEA Commander of Narcotics, Apapa Special Command, Udotong Noah Essien, expressed appreciation to the customs boss for the synergy and assured that the NDLEA would continue to partner to curb the importation of illicit drugs through the Apapa port.
