The Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), says it collected N1.161 billion as duty on consignment imported into the country from Benin Republic between January and February 2024.
The Customs Area Controller, Seme Area Command, Timi Bomodi, while giving a breakdown of the command’s revenue profile for the two months said in January alone, the command collected the sum of N643.1 million as revenue from import while in February the command realised the sum of N518 million.
Bomodi notes that the command was given a target of N7.875 billion to collect in the current year.
According to him, the revenue target represents an increase of over 400 per cent in collections compared to the target that was given to the command in the preceding year.

He said this target translates to a monthly collectible revenue of N656.258 million.
“This is about 88% of the total expected revenue. The shortfall in expected collections can be attributed to the total aggregate decline in imports occasioned by the high exchange rate,” he added.
On export, Bomodi said the command has processed 184 export declarations for 43 items only.
He said the 43 items are with a total weight of 65,185.96 metric tonnes (MT) and a Free On-Board (FOB) value of N3.057 billion.
“The total amount collected for NESS was N65.337 million, and N24.407 million as Export Surcharge for previously imported goods.
