Barring last-minute change of mind, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, will appear before senators today.

The Senate had last Thursday passed a resolution, summoning the Customs boss over the agency’s insistence to go ahead with its position to impound vehicles without valid duty as from next month.

The Thursday resolution followed an earlier one on Tuesday, which directed Customs to put the plan implementation of the policy on hold until after interaction with the committee on Customs.

The senators also summoned him to appear before them in plenary to explain the rationale behind the Customs decision.

The Senate on Tuesday rejected the letter by the Customs boss that he would not be appearing before the lawmakers because their invitation coincided with the fortnightly management meeting of the Nigeria Customs.
